Signature School of the Arts is a premier performing arts institution dedicated to excellence in dance, music, theater, and creative practice. We provide rigorous training grounded in classical foundations and informed by contemporary research in creativity and human development.
Our approach honors both discipline and individuality, cultivating artists who are technically strong, intellectually curious, and deeply expressive. At Signature, students are supported in developing not only their craft, but the confidence, clarity, and resilience to thrive as artists and human beings.

OUR HISTORY
​
Signature School of the Arts is rooted in the vision and legacy of founder Melissa Dobbs, who brings more than 25 years of leadership in performing arts education. Prior to establishing Signature, she served as Founder and Executive Director of Metropolitan School of the Arts, one of the nation’s most highly regarded performing arts schools. Over the course of her career, she has taught and mentored more than 10,000 students and developed a time-tested teaching methodology grounded in classical training and informed by research in neuroscience, mind–body connection, and childhood development.

After relocating to Sarasota in 2021, Dobbs launched Future of Dance as a pilot initiative to explore innovative teaching approaches designed to inspire and uplift individuals through movement and creative expression. Signature School of the Arts represents the natural evolution of this work: a comprehensive private performing arts institution dedicated to cultivating artists who realize their fullest human and creative potential.

Rooted in tradition, honoring the evolution of the arts, and committed to excellence in both technical and artistic training, Signature guides students to refine their abilities, discover their voice, and contribute meaningfully to the world around them.
